Job Description

Systems Engineer
 
***ONSITE IN WINSTON SALEM NC***
 
***MUST BE US PERSONS UNDER ITAR***
  • Integrate propulsion and mechanical systems within prototype aircraft to transition designs to flight test
  • Design rigging, fixtures, and instrumentation in support of aircraft integration including novel manufacturing techniques
  • Develop and execute system and subsystem-level test plans to validate designs and troubleshoot non-compliant results, using hand tools, sensors, and data acquisition systems
  • Develop and deliver assembly instructions, quality assurance processes, and acceptance test documentation in support of prototype and production engineering activities
  • Be a subject matter expert, independent contributor, and mentor in your area of responsibility
  • Collaborate in teams of multi-disciplinary developers, evaluate and analyze tradeoffs, and define system specifications
  • Collaborate with the Embedded Systems Design and Integration Team in the mounting and integration of avionic and electrical systems
  • Maintain aircraft airworthiness during flight testing
  • Establish vendor relationships to advance development progress against cost and schedule guidelines
  •  Actively lead and participate in internal design reviews and customer engagements

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

  • These skills must be shown on resume & write up:
    • Bachelor’s degree Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics Engineering
    • 5+ years of experience in aircraft subsystem design and integration activities
    • Knowledge of engine/propulsion systems, structures, hydraulics, fuel systems, and landing gear
    • Experience with rigging without having existing instructions
    • Experience with ARP4754A, ARP4761, DO-160, DO-178C, DO-254, FAR Part 23/25, MIL-HDBK-516C, FAA AC XX.1309, or similar standards
    • Team/project leadership experience demonstrating creation and achievement of objectives, work breakdown structures, schedules, and system budgets
    • Demonstrate high initiative and problem solving abilities
    • Ability to obtain a DoD security clearance

 

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

  • Experience with unmanned aircraft systems or military aviation
  • Experience with aircraft landing gear and flight controls
  • Experience with aircraft hydraulic actuation systems
  • Experience with powerplant electronic controls and integration
  • Experience with aircraft fuel and thermal management systems
  • Experience with MATLAB / Simulink, AMESim, or other modeling software
  • Experience handling integration of avionic equipment and components such as flight computers, mission computers, radios, antenna, cameras, radars, and other sensors
  • Experience working on DoD contracts such as managing deliverables, handling distribution restricted documentation, and understanding unique challenges of the supply chain for DoD compliance
