JOB TITLE: Packaging Engineer - DEFENSE
LOCATION: Dallas, TX
PAY RATE: $53.37/hour

We are a national aerospace and defense staffing agency seeking highly qualified candidates for a position with a top-tier client.

Summary: 

  • Collaborate with Program IPTs, suppliers, and shipping to coordinate packaging and shipping needs.

  • Identify and develop packaging and transportation requirements for systems, subsystems, and components.

  • Develop Special Packaging Instructions (SPI) as required.

  • Ensure compliance with contractual packaging and DOT CFR 49 POP regulations.

  • Handle shipments that may include hazardous materials, classified, or unclassified items.

  • Support day-to-day shipping operations.

  • Evaluate and implement new packaging techniques to improve shipping efficiency.

  • Work with vendors, IPTs, and customers to improve packaging designs.

  • Perform root cause analysis on damaged shipments.

  • Act as primary program point of contact (POC) for truck requests across all MFC sites.

  • Provide truck contact info and ensure crates/packaging are available for hardware packaging on site.

  • Track condition of reusable shipping crates; initiate repairs or replacements as needed.

  • Maintain contact lists for sites and document unique shipping requirements.

  • Prepare parts, assemblies, and materials for shipment according to vendor, customer, and company specs and standards.

  • Prepare shipping documents, address labels, and container identifications in compliance with regulations.

  • Load, block, and secure materials on transport vehicles.

  • Arrange required inspections and manage shipping documentation.

  • Order shipping containers and packaging supplies via purchase requests and applicable systems.

Requirements:

  • 2–4 years shipping/packaging experience.

  • Active Secret Clearance preferred; ability to obtain required (not mandatory to start).

  • Packaging Engineering degree preferred.

  • Strong technical background with MCAD skills (CREO and PTC Pro/E preferred).

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, technical writing, and presentation skills.

  • Flexible, strong work ethic; able to work onsite, overtime, and travel internationally as needed.

  • Knowledge of hazardous materials shipping regulations, military specs, RFID technology, and CFR Title 49 (Parts 171-180).

  • Familiarity with ICAO and IMO IMDG codes for dangerous goods transport.

  • Experience with ASTM D 3951 commercial packaging standards.

  • Skilled with Product Data Management (PDM) software and workflow processes.

  • Solid understanding of shipping practices, documentation, inspection, and purchase request systems.

  • Ability to handle hazardous materials using MSDS knowledge and DOT regulations.

  • Experienced in operating transportation equipment, shipping meters, label makers, and pricing devices.

  • Able to read blueprints and skilled with strapping, cutting, carton-making machines, power tools, and material handling equipment.

  • Must be a U.S. Person as defined by ITAR.
