Summary:Â
Review, interpret, and evaluate ultrasonic and other NDT inspection results
Design and develop reference standards for inspections
Develop NDT inspection plans, sequencing, and methodologies
Review and approve internal and supplier inspection techniques
Develop, qualify, and validate NDT inspections and inspection equipment
Maintain proficiency in applicable NDE methods, including Ultrasonics (UT), Radiography (RT), Eddy Current (ET), Magnetic Particle (MT), and Liquid Penetrant (PT)
Define requirements for tools, equipment, materials, parts, and processes used in product design, manufacturing, and maintenance
Draft and maintain engineering specifications and technical documentation
Collaborate across engineering teams to align on inspection requirements, feasibility, design-for-inspection, method selection, and data interpretation
Support certification and qualification of NDE equipment and processes
Assist NDE specialists with development, qualification, deployment, standardization, documentation, and training of new inspection processes (e.g., Gauge R&R, PODs)
Support root cause and corrective action efforts related to NDT/MRB issues to reduce rework and improve inspection effectiveness
Evaluate and support implementation of emerging NDT technologies for new and existing programs
Compile reports documenting evaluations, results, interpretations, and new procedures
Develop and maintain computer-based and production systems to meet user requirements
Apply project management tools to meet cost, technical, and schedule objectives
Work independently with mentorship from senior NDE engineers to develop, certify, qualify, and implement NDE technologies
Ensure compliance with contractual, regulatory, and export control requirements
Promote standardization and implement corrective and preventive actions
Incorporate Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), Lean, and Quality principles into processes, procedures, and work environments
Requirements:
Ability to obtain required security clearance
Must meet export control compliance requirements as a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee, per 22 C.F.R. §120.15)
Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate degree from an accredited institution in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, or a related field
Education and experience typically obtained through advanced technical education and 5+ years of related experience
ABET accreditation preferred but not required
3+ years of experience in Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE/NDT)
Preferred Qualifications:
5+ years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
ASNT Level II or Level III certification in UT, RT, MT, PT, and/or ET
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to diverse audiences
Functional knowledge of ultrasonic inspection systems for composites, including manual and automated pulse-echo, through-transmission, pitch-catch, and phased-array techniques
Functional knowledge of magnetic particle, penetrant, eddy current, and radiographic inspection systems
Experience developing and fabricating reference standards
Experience with robotics, 3D modeling, 3D printing, Computed Tomography (CT), and/or Ultrasonic Phased Array
Experience working in an engineering or scientific laboratory environment
Proficiency reading engineering drawings and using Microsoft Office tools
