JOB TITLE: Aircraft Structures Mechanic (Defense) – Housing Support + $600/Week Per Diem
LOCATION: San Antonio, TX
PAY RATE: $45-50/hour

We are a national aerospace and defense staffing agency seeking highly qualified candidates for a position with a top-tier client.

Summary: 

  • Maintain, repair, and modify aircraft structures and structural components of moderate to complex difficulty

  • Apply technical knowledge of airframe and powerplant systems to troubleshoot malfunctions and restore equipment functionality

  • Interpret technical documentation such as blueprints, schematics, and manufacturer manuals to solve structural and mechanical problems

  • Provide guidance and technical expertise to lower-level technicians on aircraft modifications and maintenance tasks

  • Prioritize workload to meet schedules on assigned projects

  • Perform close tolerance drilling, reaming, removal, and installation on critical support structures, including fracture-critical areas

  • Locate blind holes for installation of new structural items on existing aircraft structures

  • Seal, paint, shim, and preserve structures according to standard repair processes

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical orders, process specifications, and retrofit requirements for structural modifications/repairs

  • Access and use computer systems for work instructions, drawings, and training

  • Use tooling assemblies and fixtures for depot-level modification and repair of structural parts

  • Apply technical expertise to solve complex structural problems

  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical components and non-complex electrical systems

  • Operate unique aircraft tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, cable tensiometers, sheet metal brakes, and shears

  • Access aircraft data via computer systems and initiate parts/discrepancy requests

  • Operate forklifts, mobile cranes, and riding-type electric elevating equipment as required

  • Maintain necessary certifications, licenses, and permits for assigned work

  • Work various shifts, including alternate schedules, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required

Requirements:

  • Security Clearance: Secret (must be obtained post-start)

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • 4+ years of on-aircraft heavy structures experience

  • Experience with close tolerance drilling, reaming, removal, and installation on doublers, triplers, seat tracks, planks, stringers, and other heavy structures

  • Experience working with non-porous metals such as aluminum, titanium, and stainless steel

  • Experience reading and interpreting schematics, specifications, assembly drawings, and standard operating procedures

  • Proficiency with structures hand tools including drills (45° and 90°), pancake adapters, countersink cages, hole finders, and rivet guns

  • Knowledge of shop mathematics and practices

  • Proficient in computer systems for aircraft work and basic office software

  • Regular and predictable attendance is required

  • Ability to obtain customer approval for access; certain citizenship statuses may limit eligibility

  • Subject to 3rd party background check (employment, residence, finances, criminal history, prior military service, drug use)

  • Ascend/descend vertical ladders and work in confined spaces

  • Lift up to approximately 35 lbs; occasional 2-person lift for items >50 lbs

  • Frequent reaching overhead, walking, standing, balancing, climbing, squatting, bending, stooping, crawling, and operating foot controls

  • Occasional contact with metals and exposure to noise

  • Use personal protective equipment for eyes, ears, hands, and face as required

  • Pass visual acuity and color perception tests

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen (as defined by ITAR).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with VIP aircraft or specialty aircraft interiors within the last 10 years

  • Depot-level/heavy structures maintenance experience

  • Experience on Executive Fleet platforms

  • FAA Airframe and/or Powerplant (A&P) license preferred
