Job Description

JOB TITLE: Aircraft Structural Mechanic I
LOCATION: Savannah, GA
PAY RATE: $21.21/hour

We are a national aerospace and defense staffing agency seeking highly qualified candidates for a position with a top-tier client.

Summary: 

  • Perform assembly and fitting of detail parts and structures, including drilling and riveting operations

  • Rivet structural assemblies and sheet metal parts using required tools (e.g., riveting guns, pneumatic drills, countersinks, rivet shavers, files, reamers)

  • Read and interpret work orders, blueprints, lofts, sketches, and operation sheets to determine proper assembly sequence, rivet type/size, and hole patterns

  • Inspect all work to ensure defect-free assemblies prior to final inspection

  • Maintain accurate logs and records (e.g., MIR sheets, DMTs, Crabs, PCOs); record labor accurately in the resource planning system

  • Align and assemble parts using jigs, fixtures, pins, clamps, and fasteners

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area; support 5S and comply with safety regulations

  • Work independently under moderate supervision

  • Support Lean activities

  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives (e.g., YIAW, Kaizen events)

  • Keep shop and aircraft work areas clean and uncluttered

  • Maintain and care for tools and shop equipment as assigned

  • Follow all safety procedures and protocols

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED required

  • 1 year of related structural assembly experience

  • Experience with Solumina and SmarTeam preferred

  • Completion of Savannah Tech’s Aircraft Structures Technical Certificate Program may be credited as 1 year of experience

  • Basic knowledge of aircraft structures, sheet metal, and fabrication processes

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and 6" scales

  • Basic shop math and computer skills

  • Strong attention to detail and professional work ethic

  • Effective communication and teamwork skills

  • Demonstrated good housekeeping and safety practices

  • Ability to work with composite resins and materials

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs

  • Must be able to work any shift

  • Ability to climb ladders/stands/stairs and work in confined or restricted areas

  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen (as defined by ITAR).
