Job Description

JOB TITLE: Solder Technician - 1st Shift 
LOCATION: Oldsmar, FL
PAY RATE: $26-30/hour

We are a national aerospace and defense staffing agency seeking highly qualified candidates for a position with a top-tier client.

Qualifying Questions:

Summary: 

  • Use a microscope to verify correct part placement and orientation, manually align parts before soldering, and perform post-reflow inspection and touch-up.

  • Identify and correct solder defects, including:

    • Poor wetted solder joints

    • Solder voids / insufficient solder

    • Shorts / bridges

    • Misaligned parts / leads

    • Tombstoned or billboarded components

    • Any other solder defects during SMT operations

  • Use Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) equipment to identify solder defects and distinguish false calls from real issues.

  • Read instructions and identify standard SMT components.

  • Work in a fast-paced environment; some overtime may be required.

  • Sit for long periods and focus on detailed, tedious tasks.

  • Operate rework equipment, including hot air pencils, hot plates, and BGA removal tools (ERSA or other OEM).

  • Review boards under X-ray to detect solder defects on bottom-terminated components.

  • Run, solder, and tack down jumper wires on redesign boards (a plus).

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED

  • IPC-A-610 (expired or active)

  • IPC-J-STD-001 (expired or active)

  • Experience using a microscope to assemble components

  • Visual acuity for detailed work with microscopes

  • Knowledge of IPC-A-610 and IPC-J-STD-001 standards

  • Soldering expertise (4–6 years minimum, ideally 9+ years)

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen (as defined by ITAR).
