JOB TITLE: Systems Engineer – Payload Mechanical / Materials (Onsite)
LOCATION: Mojave, CA
SALARY: $120,000-206,000/year

Summary: 

  • Oversee payload mechanical, structural, and materials requirements and integration.

  • Collaborate with integration/test engineers, program leadership, and customers to define and execute payload integration, test, and data collection activities.

  • Develop, track, and ensure requirements are met.

  • Participate in test planning, Test Readiness Reviews (TRRs), execution, vehicle troubleshooting, and post-test data review.

  • Architect data review methodology and develop analysis tools.

  • Set and enforce standards for test planning and documentation.

  • Coordinate internally with multi-disciplinary teams and externally with customers.

  • Demonstrate integrity, accountability, and responsibility in fulfilling commitments.

Requirements:

  • Sr-level: B.S. + 5–10 years of relevant experience, or equivalent.

  • Staff-level: B.S. + 10–20 years of relevant experience, or equivalent.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field.

  • Experience with at least two disciplines: Systems Engineering, Mechanical Systems, Materials, Electrical/Avionics, Propulsion, GNC/Flight Controls, Aerodynamics.

  • Previous systems engineering experience, including contribution to technical reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR).

  • Technical experience in mechanical, structural, and/or materials engineering.

  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication.

  • Ability to acquire and maintain a security clearance.

  • MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

  • Familiarity with CAD (SolidWorks preferred).

  • Familiarity with configuration management systems (e.g., Jira).

  • Familiarity with requirements management systems (e.g., Jama, Cameo, DOORS).

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen (as defined by ITAR).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in small, dynamic engineering teams.

  • Familiarity with structures, avionics, instrumentation, software, fluid systems, and/or liquid rockets.

  • Experience maintaining aerospace configuration standards.

  • Experience with air-launched hypersonic vehicles.

  • Experience in technical risk identification, management, and mitigation.

  • Experience defining, managing, and verifying requirements for hypersonic vehicles with hot-structure airframes.

  • Current DOD Secret clearance.

  • Programming experience (Matlab, Python).

  • CAD proficiency (SolidWorks preferred).

  • Experience with configuration and requirements management tools (Jira, Jama, Cameo, DOORS).
