Job Description

Seeking a Sr., Staff, or Principal Environmental Analysis Engineer to support environmental test level analysis for hypersonic vehicles and carrier aircraft platforms.  Environmental testing is critical to mission success and involves all sub-systems, therefore this position will include collaborating with other system owners to understand requirements and engineer solutions.  You must be comfortable with and understand various environments encountered during flight such as vibration, thermal, and shock and how those affect component testing.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Analytically develop environmental test levels such as random vibration, thermal, and shock
  • Use existing test standards to aid in the development of test levels
  • Recommend test level margins, and associated risk, to the program
  • Process flight test data and incorporate necessary changes into existing test levels and margins
  • Provide guidance to other analysis engineers across the company
  • Coordinate with engineers across a broad spectrum of disciplines to understand requirements and engineer technical solutions
  • Coordinate with suppliers and sub-contractors to ensure technical and programmatic requirements are met.
  • Coordinate with external customers to support range integration, launch license applications, safety documentation and analyses, and payload integration
  • Create presentations and support design reviews throughout vehicle development
  • Evaluate risks and risk mitigation plans to determine if the risks and mitigations are appropriate
  • Regular and comprehensive communication to the program lead on a weekly and monthly basis
  • Contribute to the integration of complex aerospace systems
  • Travel, as needed, to support the department and customer meetings
  • Demonstrate honesty, responsibility, integrity, and fulfillment of commitments

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

Required Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of, and experience with, one or more of these disciplines: random vibration, thermal, and shock test level predictions.
  • Experience with creating PSDs and SRSs from time history accelerometer data
  • Experience with environmental test standards MIL-STD-810, SMC-S-016, DO-160, or RCC-319-19
  • Experience with test level margins such as uncertainty, workmanship, and qualification
  • Experience with fatigue-based time-scaling equivalence for vibration testing
  • Experience with performing the analysis to compare vibration PSD to SRS
  • Knowledge of fatigue damage spectrum and rainflow cycle counting
  • Excellent written communication and documentation skills
  • Ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities
  • Ability to work on their own initiative and prioritize tasking to fit within the business goals
  • Complex aerospace system development

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Tom Irvine’s Vibration data techniques, methods, and code
  • Experience with flight termination system requirements such as test level margins
  • Experience with Ground Vibration Testing (GVT)
  • Experience with being on a Mission Control Center console during flight operations
  • Security clearance

 

Required Computer Skills:

  • Experience in Matlab or equivalent
  • MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Preferred Computer Skills:

  • Symvionics IADS
  • Finite Element Analysis tools
  • Familiarity with configuration management systems – Jira (preferred)

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Sr-level ($120,500-158,000): Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from accredited institution and 5-10 years of relevant experience, OR equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Staff-level ($157,000-$206,000): Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from accredited institution and 10-20 years of relevant experience, OR equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Principal Level ($181,000-$237,300): Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from accredited institution and 20+ years of engineering experience, OR equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Position on-site based in Mojave, CA.  Consideration for remote position for well-qualified candidates.
  • Travel, as needed, to support the department. Travel estimated to be <5%
